![]() They tried two times, but finally sent it back with the money. I found lot of used cards on different market sites, but i don't know, how will they work, how long. Now I have an 27" Imac I7 8Gb Ram and cant't use. Nvidia Geforce Gtx 680 Edition Book Mid-2010 Mac Should Be #Nvidia Geforce Gtx 680 Edition Book Mid-2010 Mac Should Be.The size “A” will work in both. These of course need to be flashed before they will work correctly. If there is enough demand for this I may setup a store to sell pre flashed MXM cards for these systems. A guide will also be provided for those that wish to flash the cards themselves. I will edit the original post to bring it into the 20’sSame here in Hungary. "Would a 6970M card for a Dell Alienware laptop or another card with the same chip as one of the iMac 2011 models work?'Where used: Mac Pro (Mid 2010), Mac Pro (Mid 2012) Model : VIDEO/GTX680, GTX-680, GTX 680 Refurbished, Fully Tested - Working with 90 Days DV Warehouse.I found out Apple uses special firmware and for a card to work it needs an EFI flash with Apple firmware.A card without Apple firmware will simply result in a black screen.A friend of mine did suggest I could remove the BIOS/EFI-chip from the original board and reflow it onto a cheaper card - but that will probably be too complicated for a lot of people and I already had a new card on the way.Cards that already have Apple firmware (pulled from iMacs) are interchangeable though - I upgraded from the 1GB 6970M to the 2GB version.Apple don't care about customers even they paid a lot to buy the flagship of Apple. "Where can I get a card that works? (<400$)"You can get a working card on Ebay or Aliexpress - any MXM 3.0 card pulled from an iMac should be fine. I paid ~300$.Lastly, as pointed out, if you have an iMac 27" Mid 2011 with issues, the GPU is most likely the cause and Apple will fix it if it's no older than four years, because it's a recognized issue.Apple refused to fix this one because it was sold in 2011 but if you want to fight Apple, maybe that'll work too - I chose to fix it myself instead.Good luck and save yourselves a few quid.Note, As this guide is now over 3 years old, time has marched on and not been kind to our 2009-2011 iMacs, The main issue we are all facing is the lack of Metal support with the AMD cards (If they haven’t failed already) As most of you are probably all aware, there are some great developers on the scene that have devoted a lot of time into keeping our old unsupported Macs on the road. ![]() Special credits must do to DosDude who created the Mojave and Catalina Patcher tools to allow people to run these operating systems on their older unsupported Macs.Unfortunalty with these iMacs, It can be done but requires a more up to date graphics card. *EDIT* *UGH* A THREAD NECRO HOW DID I NOT SEE THAT.There are 2 cards that I have found which offer boot screen and Metal support. 700 series boards are chock full of surprises. It's not exactly a "great" idea, but if you want to have fun and break some benchmarks, have at it. ![]() The bottleneck is extreme, don't get me wrong even when my QX9650 was screaming for death at 4.6, it was pretty much on par with a 4690k and that's about as good as it got. ![]() I ran even cheap 750i boards for fun and those while not having as many unique features like GTVREL adjustments and stuff, performed really well.Īnd it works with a 3080. My EVGA 790i FTW is STILL going strong, it overclocks QXs and even shitty little E8400s like a champ. but 700 series on the other hand, oh boy, that was a winner. ![]() I'm actually impressed you have one that doesn't have a dead NIC or is still working at all TBH. They had terrible drivers that rarely worked, the onboard audio & network devices are terrible and they had a reputation of overheating/running hot. ![]()
